My first Elder Dragon Highlander deck was a preconstructed one from Wizards of the Coast- the White-Black-Green Counterpunch, headed by the legendary fungus shaman: Ghave, Guru of Spores. I like to think this of this as when I really got into Magic, with a format so diverse and complicated, it seemed I'd never run out of fun and wacky things to do...
Which still seems to be the case, I've built countless decks- for myself and friends, tuning, re-tuning, testing, brewing... My general mood when I'm working on a new deck or playing a game of EDH is euphoria, I've loved every minute of every insane play- from Armageddons on turn 25 to actually playing out a Karn ultimate restart... I've seen so much- and there's so much more to experience.
In this blog I hope to talk about commander selection, deck design, card choices, and a lot about "the last few cuts" that seem to stump so many people. I hope to impart upon you all what I've learned from playing this format, not just about deck design and the game, but some life lessons- from "how to not be a dick" to "spotting tilting and how to stop it".
I've sat down, rolled out a playmat and am shuffling up- I hope you'll join me as we explore this lovely part of our favourite game.
